Our mission is to identify, remediate, and raise awareness of dyslexia and the impact it has on our community. We provide free testing and tutoring services to children and adults in need throughout Coastal Virginia.
Dyslexia keeps thousands of individuals in Coastal Virginia from succeeding in the classrooms and in their careers. Dyslexia is an often misunderstood learning disability. Children with dyslexia often cannot get all the help they need in schools, and families cannot afford to pay for the kind of specialized help that their learning difference requires.
With the help of our trained volunteers, Sinkinson Dyslexia Foundation is able to offer one-to-one tutoring to help children and adults improve their reading skills, while gaining new self-confidence and an improved outlook on learning.
Through ongoing collaboration with schools, community centers, churches, hospitals, foundations, and local businesses, the Sinkinson Dyslexia Foundation will help address illiteracy with an inclusive campaign to raise awareness of dyslexia.
“They work on the whole child. Addressing reading, writing, tracking, and making the child feel valued. Their tutoring and advocacy got him the help he needed AND he is now beyond his grade level in reading.”
- Cammy R.
About her son who started the program two grade levels behind in reading.
“In the two years in the program, I have watched my son go from not wanting to read out loud because he didn’t know or couldn’t sound out the words; to a child who is a confident reader. My child has been able to read aloud in class without thinking he’s going to make a mistake. The program over the years has made my son thrive in school. He went from C, D, E’s on his report card to straight A’s.”
- Katrina K.
About her son who graduated the program after making 4 years of growth in his reading skills.

We are continuing to work towards making a greater impact within our community. However, due to the recent pandemic, fundraising has become more difficult than ever. With the cancellation of many of our events we are seeking support from individuals like you.
